Advance Reviews
"When I want to escape, I want to travel to another world. I want to meet characters I would not ordinarily meet, taste things I would not ordinarily taste, stare down trouble, meet my heroes and heroines, and...be surprised from one page to the next. This is what Lisa Egle does for the would-be traveler. She immerses us in distant places and...invites us to dance with strangers in strange lands. This is adventure. This is where I want to be."
—Christine Redman-Waldeyer, D.Litt Editor of Adanna Literary Journal
"Alternately hilarious and harrowing, Lisa Egle's high-spirited Magic Carpet Seduction is a traveler's trunk crammed with memorable people, sights, sounds and surprises... Like her fellow solo female travelers Gertrude Bell and Freya Stark, Egle doesn't let rules and regulations get in the way of collecting a good story. It is the author's ability to find humanity in people that makes this magic carpet journey especially seductive to me."

Magic Carpet Seduction Travel Tales Off the Beaten Path eBook Lisa Egle
I loved this book. I love travel memoirs and some of them are good and then some are great. This one is great!!! The author has a way, with her writing, that makes you feel like you are on the Magic Carpet ride with her. I found myself chuckling at times because of her sense of humor. Plus, I was running to the computer to check out the places she had visited to see what they looked like and sure enough, she had the description pegged. I hope she continues to travel and write travel books as I've become a follower! Thanks to the reviews of Amazon as I do pay a lot of attention to the reviews and then decide if it's for me or not. You all gave this a 5 star and I couldn't agree with you more.Product details

Magic Carpet Seduction Travel Tales Off the Beaten Path eBook Lisa Egle Reviews
Lisa Egle is a bold traveler who is on a quest for both excitement and personal fulfillment. Her style of travel may not be for everyone, but as you read you feel like you can do it too! Her travel tales, which are filled with humor and facts about the countries she is visiting, are all very entertaining.
Her descriptions of her surroundings and the local people she meets make you feel like you are right there with her as she rides the chicken bus or while she is trying NOT to buy a carpet in Turkey.
Her stories made me laugh and cry. This book definitely inspired me to not only travel more, but to travel "off the beaten path." By connecting with the local people and experiencing their way of life, Lisa seemed to learn more about herself and become more in tune with her true self.
Whether you are a traveler or not, this book is a fascinating and inspiring read. You can experience the ups, downs and magic that are part of independent travel and without leaving the comfort of your couch!
This book is a beautifully written love affair with "off the beaten path" travel!

The author's engaging storytelling entices the reader into stepping on the magic carpet and traveling vicariously with her. From China and Mexico to Turkey and the Middle East, Lisa Egle's book is a portal to her off-the-beaten path travel experiences and the different cultures in which she immerses herself while abroad. The colorful vignettes--interestingly named Lingdao Wabi Sabi, Bazaar Afternoon, Lebanese Love Mojo, etc.--seduce the reader into needing to find out if she missed the plane, got arrested, or found love. Her prose is entertaining, educational, and often humorous.
Through her quest to experience life as a non-tourist, the author finds a way to connect with the residents in each country, from students to shopkeepers, despite the oft-present language barrier. She is able to share with the reader first-hand many details about the countries she has selected to visit and their people, and along the way, reflects on her own life.
I thoroughly enjoyed these vicarious travels with Lisa, and I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in cultural anthropology, sociology, or a desire to experience the exotic spiciness of life!

Magic Carpet Seduction
In 1988, after a painful divorce, I decided to travel to Spain to see the birthplace of my grandfathers. I spent five weeks backpacking through some well known Spanish travel destinations , as well as some that were "off the beaten path". I recall a one hour cab ride through the desert in Almeria, the windows open, hot air and sand blowing through my hair, and the Gypsy Kings blasting on the radio as the driver set land speed records. When we arrived in the town or Zurgena, there were no signs of life, in this desolate place that looked as if it might be the remnants of a movie set for an old Clint Eastwood western. My cousin and I found our way to my Great Uncle's house, and a new chapter of our travel adventure was about to begin.
Reading Lisa Egle's soulful sojourn brought back to me that impulse that drove me to go to that part of the world at that particular time of my life a need to make a connection. There is something universal in the cozy prose of Magic Carpet Seduction, something that calls you to go out there and make the effort, to leave the safety net of the familiar, to explore the terrain, to befriend a stranger, to be alive.
I am reminded that there are new adventures to be discovered.
I honestly loved this book! It was so adventurous and exciting. I love how she tells her story for each trip. I found a lot of the book hilarious...It had crazy love stories and just plain funny stories, but it was also very educational. I definitely want to visit Turkey because of her. I hope she writes another book full of new adventures because I certainly would buy that one too!!!
I came to this book already a big fan of Lisa Egle's writing style from reading her travel blog (Chickybus) for the past few years. She is a "character magnet"--she has a knack for encountering the most interesting locals wherever she goes. She also has a great command of language and knows how to weave her experiences into well-crafted tales. In other words, she's a born storyteller. The book is broken down into various trips ("magic carpet rides") to China, Latin America, Turkey and the Middle East, with a great deal of variety in locales and travel styles. Sometimes she travels solo, sometimes not. Sometimes, her stories are laugh-out-loud funny, and other times a bit on the spiritual side. I consider myself a traveler, too, but I'm a much more cautious traveler than Lisa is, so I found myself living a more adventurous vicarious travel style through her stories. In fact, I found myself squirming at times when she made decisions I would not have made. My favorite section was Turkey, a romantic, exotic land that comes to life at her keyboard. But the entire book is a great virtual journey from start to finish. I actually carved out more time to read during the week than I normally do just because I enjoyed it so much and wanted to find out what happened next!
