Fishing With Confidence has some great points about bass biology and angling philosophy, but ultimately suffers in its ability to convey its message due to egregious lapses in grammar, punctuation and sentence structure. The author (or publisher) should invest in a serious editorial review to improve the readability of this book.There were too many superfluous apostrophes to count and several sentences ending in prepositions, just to name some of the grammatical issues. At a higher level, many sections are written in what appears to be a conversational style, almost as though it was transcribed from a recording, that does not smoothly translate to an easy-to-understand written style.
There may be a lot of good information and inspiration in this book, but it is hard to absorb through all of the poor writing and editing.

Often times while reading a bass fishing magazine or book, I end up more confused than enlightened. Many are conditioned to believe if the author is a professional bass fisherman then what they say must be truth. Well, that truth could be biased by their own experiences and the need to make a living. This author acknowledges the professionals are full of wisdom, but strongly suggests his readers to filter a Pro's guidance through their own common sense. While a new lure, line or scent may work well for a Pro, the author also subtly implies they may also may be recommending that particular product becasue he is paid to do so. So where mainstream fishing information has a tendancy to complicate the sport, this book does a great job in slowing down the fisherman and saying bass are a simple animal so try catching them in a manner you are confident. Now here is what I feel is the most imortant message from John, if you don't catch as many fish as you expected, who cares...as long as you learn from the experience. While this books does offer some basic fishing advice, its true emphasis is teaching the reader how to be a lifelong learner of bass fishing, for the more you learn, the more confidence you gain.
